April 29, 2007:
Ice Cup: Team TCC are the winners
The
Danish team from Tårnby Curling Club, silver medalists from the WCC this year, are the winners of Ice Cup 2007. Even
with one loss and one tie the team made it to the final game in which it won the Latvian Curling Friends.
In the 5 round Schenkel the team from Latvia,
Latvian Curling Friends, had a perfect record, winning all five games, including Team TCC and an American team of
Russ Armstrong going by the name of Hacks. Then top two teams played a final game for the gold and Team TCC had
their hands on the cup from the beginning of that game, winning 9-3 after seven ends. Players of Team TCC are
Angelina Jensen, Madeleine Dupont, Camilla Jensen and Ane Hansen. Unfortunately Camilla had to leave Iceland early
due to other travel plans so she didn't play the final game. Looks like this is becoming a habit of hers. The
Latvian Curling Friends are Sandris Buholcs, Solvita Gulbe, Ansis Regza
and Dace Regza.
The
Hacks played against an Icelandic team, Skytturnar, in the bronze medal game. Skytturnar scored 5 in the first end
but Hacks were focused and won 5 ends after that and the game 11-6 after 7 ends. The Hacks are Russ Armstrong, Cliff Andreoli, Mike Griem, Thom Knitter.
Ice
Cup committe also awarded three American ladies who finished 7 out of 18, presenting them with two roses each, one
rose for each time they have played in Ice Cup. They are the first and only team from abroad to play twice in Ice
Cup. In 2005 they finished 5th out of 16. The three American Players who now played as GNCC are Gwen Krailo, Susan
Haigney and Susan Porada.
Ice Cup 2007 was the biggest so far with 18 teams.
It was a success and judging by the smiles of people's faces everyone had a wonderful time. Ice Cup committee thanks
all the players who travelled long distances to play in our bonspiel. Special thanks to the Team TCC for taking the
time away from internationall levelled curling to go to Iceland.
To
avoid misunderstanding we would like to tell you that it is not Cammilla who is on this last picture with Angelina,
Ane and Madeleine. Just Halli, an Icelandic player who wanted to be on their team after Camilla left... and the gold
medal was brought to Denmark for Camilla.
