March 3rd 2005:
Ice Cup: Only two months away...

Now there is only a little more than two months until we hold our 2nd Ice Cup – May 6th-7th. We have of course started organizing and preparing things a while ago and things are looking good. Curlers from other countries seem to be excited to come to Iceland to curl and enjoy our land.

As reported earlier the Margarita Curling Club has put together two teams that will join us in May. One is from Canada (Toronto area) and one consists of two players from England (London) and two from Scotland (Aberdeen). For some reason the word of Ice Cup has spread to the east coast of USA and we will have four US teams in Ice Cup. Two teams from the same club in Wayland in the Boston area, Broomstones Curling Club, have signed up. One team from Cape Cod Curling Club (Massachusetts) and one team from Potomac Curling Club in Washington DC have also decided to come. We will also have one team from Reykjavik joining us for the second time and the rest of the teams will be home teams from Akureyri Curling Club. Registration is open until March 31 (when there is still room for more teams).

Players in Akureyri are very excited to meet all these curlers to have fun on and off the ice. We are happy to have so many teams join os in this 2nd Ice Cup and look forward to learn a little and have a lot of fun.

Final decision about system of play, rules of the competition, time of games etc. has not been made yet but news will be published here on our website in due time.
