Akureyri Curling Championship starts tonight

Akureyri Curling Championship starts tonight, Wednesday October 13th. In some teams there are foreign players so news and announcements will be in english as well as in the Icelandic when necessary. Curling.is welcomes new players and teams, a Slovakian team of hockey players and ohters.  

Nine teams will participate in the tournament. Draw will be made tonight at 21:00 and first four games will be played tonight between 21:00 and 23:00. All teams must come to the ice rink tonight although one team will not be playing tonight. The tournament will be played on Mondays (19:00-21:00) and Wednesdays (21:00-23:00). Final round will be played on Monday November 15th.

Rules of the tournament:

For a victory a team gains two points. If two or more teams are equal in the end of the tournament, game or games between those teams will decide the winner (points, not score in the games). If that is not conclusive a tie breaker will be played in the next practice time after the tournament. In the tie breaker four members from each team will deliver one stone each, no sweeping. Team with a letter first in the alphabet will start (letters drawn before starting the tournament). For a stone (majority of a stone) in the centre of the house team gains 10 points, for a stone in the 60 cm ring 8 points, then 6, 4 and 2 points if a stone bites the house. Team which gains more points due to these rules is the Akureyri Champions.

Players are supposed to be punctual, play fairly and by rules of curling and to respect their opponents on and off the ice.
