Curling in Iceland
If you want to visit Iceland and curl, the best way is to take part in the infamous international bonspiel, Ice Cup, which is held each spring. Usually it takes place in late April or early May. Information on the next Ice Cup will be posted here soon.

Curling was first played in Iceland in 1996. The pioneers founded Akureyri Curling Club, which is in fact a division of the local Skating Club, May 22, 1996. Later that year the club held its first competition. In the first years about 15-20 curlers played regularly during the winter. First they played outside but early 2000 a new Skating Arena was opened. (See photo, with the president of Iceland "delivering" the first stone when the Arena was opened.)

The first national championship was held in 2002 with four teams participating. Number of players has been going up ever since.

Iceland has twice sent a team to play in the WSCC, first in Scotland 2005.
